La Casa de las Hilanderas is a country rental house in Riego de Ambros. The town of Riego de Ambros is located right on the “Camino de Santiago” or Way of St. James that crosses the geographic region of El Bierzo. In The Way, Riego stands between the villages El Acebo and Molinaseca, and 13 km away from Ponferrada (León).

The name of the house, La Casa de las Hilanderas, is a tribute to women and their presence in the Way of St. James, a medieval path pilgrims followed from France and other European countries to reach Santiago de Compostela, which at the time was the end of the known world.

On sunny winter afternoons, the women from this village would sit at the entrance of the House and spin thread and share conversations with each other.

The house is more than a hundred years old and has been completely renovated inside. While it offers all amenities, it still preserves its original façade outside.

It is located right on the pilgrimage path to Santiago, on Riego’s main street, right next to Mary Magdalene’s Fountain and the old forge.

It is very luminous and offers splendid views from its top floor attic.
